So Jeff… how come you give so many places a 5 Star Review… I’m glad you asked…. I’m pretty much going to only give a 5 or 1 based on a first impression and then adjust accordingly if I return and feel differently. It’s pretty much based on if the place meets and exceeds the expectations being represented by the brand and branding of the individual location and the perceived value gained as a result of patronage to the establishment. That being said… this place, whole hog killed it. BBQ was great, awesome sauces on the side, as it should be in Texas. Prefect atmosphere, friendly folks smiling and taking your order menu at the front counter cafeteria style. All the sides were down home delicious.

My family and I have been coming here since since we moved to red oak in 2022. We coming almost every weekend and the food never disappoints. Their ribs is the best I have ever had!. My husband and kids always order the half slab plate, so feeling. Today I tried their fried catfish and omg.

If I could give this local Soulman’s BBQ a ZERO, I would. Spent some time with my family last week because we were celebrating my mother’s birthday and we had so much fun that no one was ready to go home, so I went with my dad to grab some ribs to take home for us to eat. I don’t live out here, but I wanted to continue enjoying the day with my mother so we paid $64 for 2 slabs of ribs to only get home and not be able to eat, much less chew through them. I like to cuss, but for the sake of my parents’ seeing this, I’m gonna hold off. I don’t know how long the ribs were sitting under the heat lamp, so we told them we didn’t want those, to give us some out of the oven because the ones under the heat lamp looked old and dry. The counter person said they were fresh, but sir…we know what fresh ribs look like!! The sheer audacity…he said he went to the oven to grab some fresh ones, so we paid for our purchases. We asked for some extra bbq sauce because we had 2 slabs, what was an 8oz. container of sauce going to do for 6 people trying to eat ribs But anywho, we get home and those ribs were so dry, overcooked and ran through!!!! I almost broke a tooth trying to chew through this mess; look at them!! I’ve had better from the other locations around the DFW, but I was sooo disappointed in these, especially considering how I was craving BBQ anyway. It was such a waste of time. I’ve never been to Juniors out there, maybe I should!!!!

Food tastes decent, asked for a three meat plate with double brisket. Was told you can’t get double, they can still charge you for a 3 meat but you wouldn’t get any more brisket. Didn’t make sense since you are paying for it.

Brisket was dry, sliced way too thin for my taste but that’s my preference not theirs.

Staff was polite, dining area was dirty but they were trying to clean it

First time at this Soulmans location, not terribly impressed. We came on a Sunday evening, place wasn't very busy. The manager was professional and doing his best to get customers through the line, but the service was still very slow. The chopped brisket sandwich was dry and the meat was shredded, not chopped. Portions seemed a bit small. The sides tasted good, and the restaurant and bathrooms are kept very clean. I will likely stick to the Soulmans in Hurst, better service and their meat is tastier.

I had to try this location after a bad experience with another location and was happy the food was fresh and tastes better. So far after 2 visits I really didn't notice but the sides are priced like meals. Paying $13 for a large cabbage or Mac and cheese is not good for the pockets or anyone. I understand business and plan to continue to look for options to entertain and dine.

Update: I stopped in on 05/27/23 to grab some food for the weekend and grab my usual Slab and a half and didn't even check it because I am used to getting a quality meal but I was shocked when I opened it up for a Memorial Day meal and noticed that I received the stingiest rack of ribs in town. If I go back I must definitely take a look at what I am buying. Very little meat on these large bones.

6/15 visit so I went by this location and picked up a slab of ribs and to quote their slogan it was mad stingy. The meat was very dry and salty. I immediately regretted the purchase and a meal wasted. The service was A+ but they seem to have lost it with the food quality and the sides prices are ridiculous. Time for a new rib place.

We tried Soulman’s BBQ for the first time yesterday. Since it was our first time, we pretty much ordered all of the meats with a few sides. Ribs, Chicken and Pulled Pork were tasty. The brisket (marble sliced AND chopped) was terrible. I’ve never tasted paint, but I’m sure that’s what it tastes like. ZERO flavor and it didn’t taste BBQ’d at all. We literally had to smother it in the spicy BBQ sauce. I’m sure they boiled that brisket in plain water and placed it in our box. I honestly can’t fathom why I didn’t even taste a speck of salt. Oh yea, the spicy potatoes aren’t spicy at all. 3 stars, because everything else was decent.
