Disappointing is the word that comes to mind after my experience at La Cuisine. At first glance this restaurant presents its self as high end, or at least feels it’s appropriate to charge like it is, before revealing its tawdry nature.

For my starter I had a selection of cold cut meats and pate, which was a sad affair that tasted like it came straight from the plastics of the nearest supermarket. Paired with some pleasant enough melon, and straight from the box bread sticks. This was over all a disappointing dish considering the £10+ price. My partner had Jerk Pork which came in the from 3 tough pork pieces which ultimately came to a similar conclusion as my own.

For mains we had Halibut, coming in at £32, over cooked and unseasoned. The coconut sauce was pleasant enough, with a side of chips, veg and prawn crackers (not sure why these were here). Credit due, the seasoned veg was tasty enough! And thats where my compliments and energy to talk about this “dish” ends.

My partner’s duck was once again tough, and served in a watery orange sauce. The texture made the lack of flavour unbearable, and as a result this was largely left uneaten. Maybe this was made worse by the lack of a suitable knife to cut the hunk of meat. Once again the veg was tasty enough, and so was the pastry which contained the meat.

All this on top of the hour and a half wait for our mains, which with only 3 other tables of 2 in the restaurant for the majority of our visit, is poor in my opinion.

Overall disappointed. After looking at the good reviews online, and photos of what looks like quality food, I can say I feel bamboozled, and resentful that we spent £95, with the highlight being leaving. Maybe La Cuisine should focus on nailing one type of Cuisine before venturing into the broadness of ‘world food’.

I leave this review with hopes that you too, wont get tricked into such a dining experience in what is otherwise a delightful part of the country to holiday in.

Friendly and professional front of house staff. Beautifully presented food which tasted amazing, The chef went out of his way to make sure my husband who has coeliac disease and other allergies was well catered for. The Resturant had a relaxed and elegant atmosphere. Hope to visit again in the future.

I've had two meals here now and both have been excellent. The Sunday lunch was really lovely and as a vegetarian I felt very well looked after with the best nut roast I have had in a restaurant. Lovely little Caribbean touches and beautifully cooked veg. Chef came to speak to us which showed ge really cares about looking after his customers. Second time I went was for an evening meal which was equally good. It was also really lovely that the waitress remembered my previous asked after my parents with whom I visited before. Fully recovered La Cuisine!

We were greeted with a warm friendly welcome from Amy, the experience then just got better. Food was amazing, presented very well and tasted even better. Ian the chef knows his stuff, just wished we lived closer as we would definitely go back and try all the other dishes on the menu. Give it a try, you will not be disappointed.

Wow wow wow!!! What a hidden gem in the heart of Leyburn. Residents in the town and surrounding areas need to visit this restaurant for a fine dining experience at extremely affordable prices. Ian is an incredible chef and he & Amy really need the local support, so I urge you to pay them a visit. You will get exceptional food and will not be disappointed.

Had dinner at this restaurant, was concerned as we were the only ones in there at first. Needn't have worried, the food was excellent. I had spicy parsnip and cauliflower soup, delicious, followed by Jerk chicken, also absolutely delicious. Apparently the chef/owner is Jamaican, he presents his food beautifully, Jerk chicken with green beans, cabbage and sauté potatoes but presented in a very classic style - great. My wife had sea food pasta, she raved about it. Atmosphere was lacking due to lack of customers I suppose and I have no idea why, I will absolutely be back again next time we are up this way. I highly recommend this place and hope it catches on - based on our experience, it deserves to.

The food was absolutely fantastic. Would definitely return. Though had to wait longer than average between courses. Small price to pay for such good and well cooked food. Jerk chicken was amazing !
Deserves to do well.
