Have you ever walked into a place and instantly feel the love that went into every detail? That’s what you feel when you walk through the doors of Issei Noodle. I cannot rave enough about this place. Every single category is checked. Music. Food. People. Decor. ALL VIBES. So lucky that I got to walk in this establishment today and try their food. Chef Hai is extremely special in how he can transform love onto a plate. Ps still thinking about the black sesame and matcha latte.

It's a cute spot right in the heart of downtown Lanc. They have a great menu selection with some items changing seasonally. All their menus are available online, which is super helpful to get a feel for what they have. The noodles are well made with delicious broth selections and lots of additions to make it custom. My favourite part was the takoyaki. It's hard to find places they make it fresh like this, so it was truly a treat. We didn't venture to the izakaya side, but from what I saw, it was beautiful, and they have a great menu.
My biggest "critique" if you can call it that was the price, they definitely do charge more than the other ramen places in the area for having a comparable menu.

Much better atmosphere after the relocation. New location is nearby and food still tastes great. Tantan spicy is still my favorite, the summer cold noodle is fun to try out.

4.3/5: Unexpected Delightful Japanese Cuisine

Food:
I never imagined Lancaster PN would have a Japanese restaurant let alone a delectable selection of authentic cuisine. This isn't just for show, the food was actually pretty good!

Tonkatsu Ramen (4.7/5)- Flavor and depth was on point! More clean and less oily than some restaurants- to my liking. While maintaining it's highly rich, deep pork broth. Noodles were perfectly cooked al dente and had the exact texture you would expect of a good Japanese ramen! Nothing special about the toppings but appreciated the three small eggs and chasu (wish it was more fatty & charred).

Curry Katsu (3.7/5)- Another deep flavor, but in the best curry way. The pork katsu was well fried and large. Generous amount of rice to pair the thick curry sauce and crunchy pork. Unfortunately, the curry was just too salty. It would've have been unbearable to eat on its own but a small pinch of the sauce mixed with the pork and rice became its saving grace. Overall, the savory+spicy sauce worked well with its complementary meat and carbs- please just lower the salt level!

Takoyaki (5/5)- Perfect!! Get it 🙂

Others:
Servers were all chill and at the end kindly packed our leftovers (thank you!)
Atmosphere was immaculate, clean, and modern.

Having tried the best Japanese ramens in NY, DC, and TX, this was amazing for where it was! Thoroughly satisfied and content. Definitely stop by this Japanese gem in Pennsylvania!

The new location is great! Right on orange and conveniently located! The soft opening featured a limited menu but everything was delicious! My husband and I ordered the Katsu Curry and the Abura Soba!

Edit: went back this past weekend and tried the much talked about Ramen and WOW! if I could give Issei a 6 out of 5 I would! I ordered the TANTAN-MEN and my husband ordered the HARU WARM RAMEN and we can’t stop talking about how much we enjoyed them both and considered ordered Issei again tonight!

If you’ve never been to Issei it’s an absolute must do in Lancaster City especially with their trendy new Izakaya small plates bar to start the night off!

The beef gyoza were fantastic. The kyuri sunomono were fantastic. The Bushido way of the warrior sake was fantastic. The appetizers came out very quickly.

I got the mayu tonkotsu, very good

My partner got the Oki Haisai Shio, also very good.

Taiyaki, very good. Smaller than I expected, but very good.

The service was good. They were pretty busy too.

I was overall very happy with my meal. I've visited Japan twice and got to experience authentic Japanese ramen and karage.

The ramen itself was very good. The bone broth, marinated egg, pork was all very good. I was honestly not a fan of their actual noodles funny enough.. they boast homemade noodles so maybe it's just me. Something about it wasn't to my liking, but the ramen overall was very good. I wish you didn't have to pay extra for marinated egg, for me it's not ramen without that egg!

The karage is traditional much like you'll find in Japan. Chicken thigh marinated in soy sauce, sake and ginger, coated in corn starch and fried. It should be crunchier, in Japan they often double fry it.

I also got the Ube cheesecake to go because my wife is Filipino and it's her favorite.

The service was very good, staff was very kind and welcoming.

5/5 but it's too expensive for me, if it was more affordable I would be a regular.
