Always a wonderful experience at Home. We've been for lunch, for take away lunch, normal and taster menus. The atmosphere is comfy, cosy and friendly, the service knowledgeable, swift and chatty, and the food....... always beyond outstanding. Can't find the words to recommend Home enough.

LOVED our dinner at Home.
The service was friendly, welcoming and unpretentious. It was like arriving at a friends house where they poured a large glass of wine and put delicious bread and olives on the table. Felt at home from the start.
I had the cucumber avant guard which was hard to describe even after eating it - but the flavours were amazing. The green curry fried chicken was outstanding -
So much flavour.

For mains we had pig cheeks which were delicious and the rump steak. The steak was unbelievable! It was melt in the mouth and cooked to perfection. It was also one of the largest steaks have ever been served and took 2 of us to eat. Should really have taken a doggy bag as would a have made amazing sandwiches next day.
Didn’t really have room for pudding but wanted to try the plum tart which was so delicious. Wine was very reasonably priced for the quality and comes by glass .

Will be finding reasons to be in Dumfries on Thursday or Friday again so can return

Not sure where to start, but one thing is for sure, there isn’t a single negative in this review.
Home Restaurant, it’s exactly what the name suggests - Home. It’s home because when you walk in you will be made to feel at home. Friendly, welcoming and a huge smile greets you.
Around 20ish tables, lovely decor and lighting, views of the kitchen and bar and small but very tempting and amazing menu with a choice for everyone.
The knowledge of the food is beyond what I have experienced anywhere else. This included where, when and how sourced. Also any ingredient used in cooking and prepping the dishes.
This was only my second visit and honestly I left the first time saying the exact same as I am now repeating. Absolutely outstanding in every category and manner.
My advice is listen to the owner’s recommendations and let her husband in the kitchen wow you with his skills.
I have been to Michelin star restaurants that having nothing on Home, if you get the chance to eat at Home in Dumfries, my advice is seize it with both hands. And if you have a spare seat going let me come too !
Home was reviewed by a very well know food critic and she rated it as a hidden treasure (my words but she absolutely loved it), I believe “refreshingly perfect” were actually Grace Dents words.
She wasn’t wrong and a full 5 stars from me.
James is the best chef within at least a hundred miles for sure.

Fantastic meal, the dishes are all very well thought out and put together. The staff explained the menu well and were very welcoming. The venue was very comfortable and I really liked the lighting on a cold and wet night!

We didn't book and were cheerfully accommodated in the early evening. The ambience was great, busy but not noisy, the tables are well spaced. The decor is tastefully and skillfully done. The service was informal and excellent. The menu reassuringly constrained and the food was great. We really enjoyed our experience

AMAZING! The food! The people! The atmosphere! Delicious locally sourced meals made with love, just like “home!” We forget to take before pictures but this should prove to you how great it was!

Wow! We were so impressed! We came here on a recommendation while attending an event from out of town. I have some difficult food allergies and they were amazing at not only accommodating but also making sure every dish was fantastic with substitution's, which sadly is very rare when you have an unusual food allergy. The staff were wonderful, atmosphere lovely, and the prices were really reasonable. Wish they were in my town as I would eat here all the time.

What is there to say? I’ll try. This place is bloody brilliant! The food is spot on, the service is great, not at all formal, really, really friendly, it’s not expensive, the location is good, the building has history. Cannot fault it! Would love it on our doorstep. ?
