Was in PHX for work and decided to eat here for a table of 5. We did not have a booking on a Monday night in fall. Was told it would be an hour wait for a table. We saw there was some seats at the bar and asked if we could sit there while we waited for a table. We ordered cocktails and chips and guac/salsa to share for 5 and ate at the bar for about 25 mins when they said a table was available. The bar staff helped us move our drinks and snacks to our table and the booths are big and velvet and plush. We ordered a main dish each and some elote and rice to share. The enchiladas were the favorite, but so was the brick chicken. The birria was nicely presented and the potato tacos are more like fried mini tacos. Still good, just not what I was expecting. Serving sizes are on the smaller side but with the sides and how tasty they were it was great. It was about $100 per person with drinks and tips. Recommend but would say book ahead.

The food at this place is so good. Everytime I am in town I go here. Everything was made from scratch. So if there is something you don't want or are allergic to, they can change it. I had the duck. It was perfect. Lots of flavor and a beautiful presentation. I recommend this place to anyone in the area looking for fresh food and no processed, frozen stuff. We also got an order or the Brussel sprouts. They were so yummy! Service was helpful and so pleasant. Great place!

Hip modern take on Mexican food. Plenty of other patrons visiting when we ate there on a Thursday night.

The chips with the green salsa was fresh, hot, and tasty.

We had the build-yourself-tacos. Elegantly served.

The margaritas was fastly served, and flavorful.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Chico Malo in Phoenix, Arizona and I must say, I was blown away by the experience. From start to finish, everything was top-notch.

First off, the food was absolutely delicious. We tried the agua chiles, chilaquiles, carne asada fries, which were bursting with flavor, and the Torta Pibil, which was perfectly cooked and seasoned. The bottomless margaritas were a hit with our group, and we couldn't get enough of the Gansito Americano for dessert. And let's not forget about the arroz con leche - it was the perfect way to end our meal.

But what really made our visit stand out was our waiter, Jesus. He was attentive, friendly, and made sure that we had everything we needed throughout our meal. His recommendations were spot-on and he truly went above and beyond to make sure we had a great dining experience.

Overall, I can't recommend Chico Malo enough. The food, the drinks, atmosphere and the service - everything was fantastic. If you find yourself in Phoenix, do yourself a favor and make a reservation at Chico Malo. You won't be disappointed.

I can see why this place is used a lot for Social Media content; it’s absolutely beautiful.. really cool vibe. I was there for a small happy hour gathering and so we were pretty much relegated to a large, very comfy dark green velvet booth in the corner, and I didn’t explore much of the entire place but from what I could tell, everybody seem to be enjoying themselves in the place was definitely hopping. Our server was extremely friendly, laid-back, chill and super helpful.
They do have outside seating, but with the heat at this time of year, definitely advisable to sit inside.
The food that we did have at the table, which consisted of chips, guac, and other assorted appetizers.. they were all very tasty, and I was grateful to try a little nibble of everything.
I will definitely be coming back here again to try more dishes.. really love the atmosphere.

This is my new favorite upscale Mexican restaurant in downtown Phoenix. Loved the brick 1/2 chicken that came with some corn, cream & jalapeños which were perfect with this dish but not too spicy. Enjoyed the chorizo mashed potatoes & traditional margarita, no salt por favor. For dessert we had the churros plate & a cake covered in chocolate. FYI...check with your waiter regarding spicy items on the menu, they will provide you with good advice. Although I wish the canasta tacos came with a chicken or fish option. Visiting them in the hot month of August, I gotta say their air conditioning was nice & cool.
You really cannot go wrong with Chico Malo.

What we ordered:
Mimosa
Oaxacan Old Fashioned
Bad boy brew

Food:
Pork verde
Duck empanada
Elote
Side of chips

The food hear is surprisingly good I can see why they’ve stayed open here, the elote is by far the best I’ve had , order a side of chips to go with it , makes it way better, and the pork verdes meat just falls off the bone and tastes so good my only complaint is that it would of been so much better if we had beans or rice with it instead of a tomato and potatoes, the empanada was good but a bit soggy/mushy on the interior great food spot
